No Software Included — IT Variant (V741011BU000)

The DS-9500IT does not include Olympus Dictation Management System (ODMS) software. The recorder is fully functional as a standalone dictation device without ODMS — record, play back, and transfer files via Wi-Fi or docking station immediately out of the box. ODMS is required for advanced workflow management, transcription routing, and administrative controls in a multi-user environment.

Built-In Wi-Fi — Send Dictation Without a Cable
Connect to your office Wi-Fi network or a personal hotspot and send completed dictation files directly to a transcriptionist, shared folder, or dictation management system from anywhere — without a USB cable, docking station, or returning to a desk. Status of transcription files can be checked on the recorder's display. A LAN connector on the CR-21 docking station provides wired network backup when Wi-Fi is unavailable.

256-Bit AES Encryption — 4-Digit PIN Lock
Dictation files are encrypted with 256-bit AES using the DSS Pro audio codec — the same encryption standard used in secure communications. A 4-digit PIN lock prevents unauthorized access to the device. Essential for healthcare environments (HIPAA-sensitive recordings), legal dictation, and any professional context where recordings contain sensitive personal information.

Intelligent Dual Microphone System — Audio Beamforming
Two omnidirectional microphones work together using audio beamforming to focus on the speaker's voice while suppressing ambient noise from behind and to the sides. Three microphone sensitivity modes — Dictation 1 (quiet environments), Dictation 2 (high directionality for noisy environments), and Conference (stereo with intelligent auto mode for meeting recording) — adapt the recording pattern to the situation.

Triple-Layer Studio Pop Filter
Three layers of acoustic filtering built into the microphone assembly block breath noise, wind vibrations, and plosive sounds — delivering clean audio that requires minimal post-processing and achieves the highest possible accuracy with Dragon and other speech recognition engines. Accuracy with Dragon is directly tied to signal-to-noise ratio; the DS-9500's pop filter and noise cancellation work together to maximize it.

Shockproof Body — Rated to 1.5 Metres
The DS-9500's housing is impact-resistant and certified to withstand drops of up to 1.5 metres — equivalent to being dropped from desk height — without recording interruption or damage. The body is also alcohol-wipe resistant, allowing safe surface disinfection in clinical and healthcare environments. An optical slide switch (with no moving mechanical parts) reduces the risk of mechanical failure under heavy daily use.

2.4-Inch Full-Colour TFT Display
A large, backlit full-colour display shows recording status, file information, battery level, Wi-Fi connectivity, and dictation metadata clearly — easier to read than the monochrome displays on earlier Olympus recorders. Navigation is handled by a 4-position joystick and three programmable function buttons (F1–F3) for quick access to frequently used settings and features.

Precise Optical Slide Switch — Four Positions
The optical slide switch provides four distinct positions: Record, Stop, Play/Pause, and Rewind — controlled by thumb without looking at the device. Optical detection (no mechanical contact) eliminates the wear and failure risk of traditional slide switches. The switch's tactile precision is a key reason professional dictators prefer the DS-9500 for high-volume daily dictation.

Flexible Storage — Internal + SD Card Slot
2GB of internal memory is built in, with an SD/SDHC card slot accepting cards up to 32GB for extended storage capacity. Supports DSS Pro (DS2), DSS, WAV (PCM), and MP3 recording formats. DSS Pro with 256-bit encryption is the recommended format for professional dictation workflows requiring security and compatibility with transcription software.

CR-21 Docking Station — Charging and PC Connection
The included CR-21 cradle connects the DS-9500 to a PC via USB and to a network via LAN — providing a stable charging and file transfer solution for desk-based workflows. Charges the recorder in approximately 2 hours via the included F-5AC adapter. Supports an optional RS-31H footswitch for hands-free transcription playback control directly from the docking station.

Dragon Compatible — Speech Recognition Optimized
The DS-9500's dual microphone system and pop filter are specifically optimized for Dragon NaturallySpeaking accuracy. Recordings made in DSS Pro or WAV format deliver the signal-to-noise ratio Dragon requires for maximum transcription accuracy. Compatible with Dragon Professional Individual and Dragon Medical for direct-to-text or dictation-to-transcription workflows.
